Who?

The Boys & Girls Club Alameda, the 3000 kids we plan to serve, and the entire community.

For 60 years, the Boys and Girls Club Alameda has provided the youth of Alameda with a positive place to go for fun and educational activities during non-school hours. We offer adult-supervised programs for kids from ages 6 to 18, six days a week, 52 weeks a year, including sports, fitness, arts and crafts, and recreation. We help kids develop character and leadership, find ways to nurture their own well being, and explore educational and career opportunities. In short, we offer a safe place for kids to learn and grow throughout their school years.

What?

A 25,000 square feet, state-of-the-art Youth Development Center to serve up to 3000 school age children from all of Alameda each year, and to replace the facility the Boys & Girls Club Alameda has used for the past 60 years.

Plans include a gymnasium, teen center, games room, computer lab, learning center, arts and crafts center, music and dance areas, dental and health clinic, and administrative offices. The school district and other community groups will also have access to the building. This will be the only facility in Alameda that is open to children every day and evening after school, on weekends, and during vacation periods.

Where?

In the exact location that studies show we can do the most good: near the children and households with the greatest need for after-school supervision and positive role models.

The Boys & Girls Club Alameda has secured a 99-year lease on 1.5 acres ofland in the West Alameda area of Woodstock in partnership with the Alameda School District. This site is within easy walking distance of three elementary schools, a middle school, and a high school, and is accessible by local buses from other schools.

When?

We have leased the land and drawn up the plans for our new site. A team of contractors, architects, and developers has convened with professionals from the Boys and Girls Club of America to finalize the design and construction plans. Permits have been approved by the State of California and we have broken ground. We have had an enthusiastic start on our building fund.

And, we need $10 million to construct the building. That is why we are asking you, our friends and neighbors, to invest in the children that we serve with a donation at this time. This could be in the form of a one time gift or a stretch gift over a period of time.

Why?

By now it should be clear – we need a new Center because the children of Alameda are counting on us. But keep this in mind, too:

  • Your gift will endure. Our new center will be a cornerstone of the community of Alameda for many years to come.

  • Your investment goes to a proven organization. We have been doing our work for the children for over 60 years, and we know what we are doing.

  • Your gift has leverage. Your donation will be matched, up to $2 million! And keeping a child on track now helps avoid costlier programs later.

Through our donor recognition and thank you gifts, we will show you our appreciation and let the community know that you are behind our success. Ask about our sponsorship opportunities.

How?

With your help, we will continue to provide a Positive Place for Kids. Please, consider making a lasting investment in our children and our community.
